Classic center
« on: May 12, 2017, 17:08:54 »
So on vacation in Lisbon Portugal. We're heading up to a small town named Sintra to
tour and spend the day. On our way there, right on the fwy, is a large Mercedes dealership with a separate building called the Classic Center! Is this another one here in Portugal? Couldn't see well enough if there were any true classics and I definitely wasn't going to gain agreement from my wife to go back. Just wondering...

Hi Tyler,
The large building you saw near Sintra is in fact the offices, repair services  and sales of the Mercedes Benz subsidiary in Portugal. They did open a classic center. It has an exhibition area and a service and restoration area. However it is a fairly small operation ( the classic part) and only 2 guys are dedicated to classic service and restoration, I visited it about 4 months ago as I was considering taking my newly acquired 230sl which had been standing for 8 years. There were 5 cars being restored and 3 were 113s. Seemed quite professional with good looking repair areas. Prices were just under 50 euros p hour + 23% VAT...just slightly lower than normal /modern Mercedes going rates. Cheap compared to many countries slightly above average for Portugal.
Hope you enjoyed your trip ! Sintra is a lovely place. I live nearby on the coast in Estoril in the Cascais region.
Regards
Pedro

Yes Portugal is beautiful. We are visiting Cascias today in fact. I was remarking to my wife how incredible it would be to tour these beautiful towns and places in our 280sl. Top down of course! Beautiful country Pedro.

Ah Sintra! What a divine place. I visited there last spring with my 2 daughters, sans Pagoda. Those hilly roads are made for them!
Thanks for the memory.

Just realized the autocorrect was on for Portuguese and my message came through very weird ......"massage etc ) .... I meant to say that " if you come to Sintra/Cascais area again, drop me a message and who knows you may be able to drive a padoa for a day" ......sorry about the nonsense in the previous message .

Zak,
Glad you appreciated it so much .... I have travelled quite a bit and lived in a number of countries ....but always end up wanting to come back here !
Counting you in ! Just let me know.
At the moment trying to sort out a "minor " admin issue which has kept my pagoda "grounded " for 3 months .... The Vin number in the prior country( Ireland or USA not sure where the error started)  title register has the letter J in the end instead of a 5 !!!!
