Transmission case color
« on: June 22, 2015, 13:13:31 »
While my engine is being rebuilt, I plan to tidy up my transmission (4 speed manual) as well. The transmission case needs to be repainted. Does anyone know the correct color code?

I don't have a code, but mine was the same black as the engine block and rear end.

I do not believe my transmission has been repainted. The color is grey (with a hint of green). I have seen the same color on several pictures, but I have not been able to find the color code.

It looks like army green. The inside of older Benz rims tended to be painted this colour. I imagine there was a lot of cheap green paint around after the war. ;D

Guys,

Hope you can help.

I'm hoping to find out the original colour of the case / housing to a 4 speed manual transmission.

Mine also looks to be a pale mist green color.

Can anyone provide any further information on likely paint code / number? (Photo?)

Thanks

As has been tossed around on this site, PPG DPLF 40 epoxy primer is about the same green grey color and has a satin gloss to it which is also correct. It supposedly can be left not top coated although I would check with your auto paint store to be sure. I have used it many times when painting cars and is a top quality primer. Ain't cheap though. As opposed to spraying with a gun, you might try using a Preval sprayer https://store.preval.com/collections/preval-sprayer/products/preval-sprayer?gclid=CPjr9JqzqdQCFQUoaQod0tAD5g You might need to thin a bit more to get a good spray pattern.
