I am in the market for a replacement fire wall pad for my French delivered late model 250 SL.
I am told that the euro 113's have a different pad from the US models.                                     Where can I buy a euro precut pad? All I see on the internet are US pads.
Who makes the best ones?
I once saw a pic of a fire wall pad with piping around the edges.
Any advise is welcomed.
thanks,
jz

Nonsense. :o
Where have you been told that??  :-X :-[

The firewall pads are all the same between same-aged Euro and US SLs.

There are a very few differences/designs of material choices available over the 8 built years of the Pagodas
but no difference between Euro versus US.

Only difference is that the later US cars had no cut-out for the body number plate (located at A- pillar and later ot B-pillar) anymore.

There are original ($200) and aftermarket ($120). The original should show a diamond pattern.

Be Careful, there are some e-bay listings designed for the right hand side used in the UK and other countries. Make sure you are buying for the LHS if you are in the US.

I recall reading that the euro cars had the ID plate on the passenger side fire wall and the US cars had that ID plate elsewhere so the US version was solid with no cut out for the ID plate.

I am glad I am wrong then. Thanks for the scoop gentlemen.
I will see how much the MB Classic center charges.

Is the removal and replacement a DIY job or better left to the pros?

I did it myself. The difficulty is cleaning the old one using utility knife. I bought it from authentic classic with diamond pattern. Check their web site, they do carry the original for LHS. http://www.authenticclassics.com/Mercedes-230SL-250SL-280SL-Firewall-Pad-set-p/auth-003538.htm

Zalsaigh, as I have been finding I would have to manually cut out for the ID tag on the passenger side fire wall. The cut out will never be CAD perfect.
That is my problem.

The one I bought from authentic classic came with the cutout already done. I did not have to make the cut, if you have to, just be careful. Good Luck.

The pad listed above comes with an adhesive backing so no additional glue is required.
