Hard top chrome trim sealer

I'm reassembling the hard top and I know I need a sealer for the fasteners on the hard top so they don't leak. Does anyone have a tried and true favorite? I have standard 3 M seam sealer that would probably work but I'm sure there might be a better way using the opaque original type sealer?
