Rubber Trim For Bumper Pads.
« on: August 18, 2017, 16:51:34 »
Guys, I've spent over an hour searching on line for a small rubber [A Pillar/triangular] trim to fit on to my bumpers. The chrome walls are approximately 1cm thick. The A Pillar/triangular base is flat circa 8cm and about the same height. Because it's this small, it appears to not be very popular. Any of you know where I might find something like this? Only need a meter!

You must not have searched the site of probably the biggest supplier of aftermarket Mercedes SL parts:

Here is another source:
http://www.authenticclassics.com/Silver-Grey-Rubber-Liner-Strip-Pad-p/auth-003798.htm

I bought some of this, and it worked just fine. It does take a bit of patience to get it into place, so go slow and steady.

Thanks Alfred.
Actually, I have checked out this site but they don't seem to have the trim I'm after? Appreciate your support.

Looks like a different profile to me.
Not sure why you think SLS does not have it in stock; see photo: "Verfügbarkeit" triple green.

Yea, your right Jonny, it is a different profile.
I made contact with a number of rubber companies yesterday and Friday evening. In the process, I became aware that the shape I was looking for is an 'A' frame - with a flat base. The base is the bumpers contact point and the cut/gap/space in the top center is 1 - 2 cm. In a nutshell, the profile is simple, but not that easily sourced.
Surprise, surprise, the original strip can be sourced from a few elite retailers.......... @ 10 times the cost of this one!
The height of this strip is 3cm shorter than the original but it's purpose and design is otherwise the same. If it's not [for some reson] fit for purpose, when I receive it, well - it cost less than a euro, so I'll update on the outcome.

Most interesting. I have not done the front over-riders on my car so I still have the new pieces. These are the same profile as the original, and are NOT the same as the ones shown in your photo with the number - 37H9871M. As I wrote, I got these from Authentic Classics - the photo from the link I posted still shows as matching the original style.

The photo for the piece that Alfred posted at SLS, is different.

Hi Jonny B.
Just in this mornings post, and as I said I'd keep you posted - here's a few pics....
Got a meter strip for less than a Euro & plenty there to fit all four guards. Like the black color as it will chime with the bumper face.
Won't be fitting for another week or so, but I'm now more certain that this will serve the purpose.
Lot's of titbits but getting there.
Cheers.
