A BIG Thank U to Joe Alexander
« on: September 18, 2017, 13:29:17 »
As all of you know who attended the Virginia PUB this past weekend, it was a truly successful event. The food, the tech sessions, the comradely, oh did I mention the food, the location and setting at the Ramsey Farm, oh yes the food, the judging, the swap market, the Cars and Coffee, the wine tastings, and the drive backs thru the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was great and weather was great. But I do want to give Joe Alexander a BIG thank you for all his time and effort to look at our cars and to make sure they were all in good running order. We had a standing ovation for him at our banquet dinner. It was a nice touch to a guy that started this movement. For those who missed the event, shame on you and please do make it a point to attend our next PUB event two years off.

Also his assistant mechanic. They even put a fuel pump on one vehicle. These men are treasures. Thanks Joe.

I like to second Bob’s comments about Joe, he truly is a “peoples person” he enjoys helping people and solving there problems if there are any with there car. Prior to joining this truly international group I read many of Joe’s suggestions not only in the forum also in the original Yahoo notes and saw video clips from past PUB events that are available here on our site. I did all this research prior to purchasing my car. I said to myself one day I have to meet this Gentleman and I was fortunate to meet him in this years PUB and in 2015 as well in 2013 during the 2013 Williamsburg 50s anniversary of the Pagoda. Joe is and always will be a helping hand, he demonstrated this again this weekend when he help[ed so many of us out. Thank you Joe for all you do. We can never thank you enough for your technical knowhow on our cars and the help you so willingly provide to us all.

ThankYou !!!

Dieter

I know I don’t speak for myself we missed Dan Caron (Benz Dr.) during this weekends PUB event, he like Joe also gives freely of himself to help us with our problems whenever he is part of our events or here on this forum (like so many other individuals that give of there time to help us newbies). Dan we hope you can sort out the damage when the Racoon decided top bud heads with your car, the Red Rocket and join us at our next event. I know we all look forward to that, for you like Joe give so much of yourself like Joe when you are at those events (as we saw at Williamsburg and PUB 2015), your hands are always covered in grease and a rag to clean them is always near by.

ThankYou !!!

Dieter

PS. Both Joe and Dan (as are many others) truly bear witness to the fact that our  site is not only about cars its also about “People and people helping other people” that truly is what this site is all about.

Brian Pigg was a huge, but hopefully not overlooked asset for our group.  He worked tirelessly this weekend, and his quiet, modest demeanor should not be overlooked.

Thank You Brian.  You are the best.

Thanks Dieter. I really wanted to go but as the event drew nearer I realized that I couldn't do it. Then I hit the raccoon, then I caught cold, and now it turned into bronchitis. My car was fixed but I wasn't so I wouldn't have been able to go anyway. I gave my ticket to Harold who works with NORAD who helps to keep us all safe - his job is more important than mine and I was very happy to have been able to see my place taken by a good guy.

I guess, without realizing it, I've sort of modeled my operation by watching how Joe does things. There are not many guys who do this sort of work out of a shop in their back yard, and are not back yard mechanics; Joe would be one of them. I'm happy to know everyone had a good time.

Joe is a wonderful and generous  person. When I wanted to install a hot cam, he sent me camshaft bearings at no cost! I feel  very privileged  to have made his acquaintance!

Brian helped me with my car on Saturday for two hot hours. Had a fuel line not want to come off the fuel injector so I could clean the injector. He just tried and tried with no complaints. We did get 5 off and get them all cleaned out, doubt they had ever been cleaned.
Thanks Brian you are awesome!!!!

Brian Pigg is an awesome unsung hero. It was just spectacular of him to fill his diesel wagon with tools, drive down from Ohio, don his official work clothes and help out anyone who needed it. Your issue with the #2 injector requires some special tool to hold the injector in place while you can remove the injector line. Gernold made one, anyone else? I'd like to see one. Gernold's trick for NOT needing his special tool is to rap the top of the nut holding the line on BEFORE you try to remove it...in case anyone is wondering.

For those that don't know, DPreston did remove 5 injectors. 4 of the 5 were somewhat clogged, and Jim Viller's machine cleaned them all after a little effort. Alas, the fifth injector didn't want to work well so that required replacement. Seeing Jim's little machine in action was kind of cool. Seeing the work it did, and the ease of (excepting #2 of course) removing an injector, cleaning it, and replacing it was enlightening.

Thanks DPreston and Jim! And big thanks, Brian!!
