Hello,
Can anyone please help me in identifying my engine type or number?
The car is a '64 W113 230sl and somewhere in the past the engine had been changed to a 280sl. There are fake numbers stamped on the block, pretending to be a 230sl engine... I'm doing a complete overhaul of this engine now and I'm wondering how to tell which engine it really is.
Here are the numbers:
Engine nr: 127 981 - 10- xxxx (underneath the left engine mount I found MB part nr: 130 011 01 01)
Head nr: 130 016 1101 with 230 SE stamped on a side (I'm guessing it was 280SE originally and then the 8 became a 3...)
Camshaft: 180 051 08 35 - code number '08'
The bore diameter is 86,5mm and the block has longitudinal coolant channels between the cylinders. All that is saying it's a 130.xxx engine.
After my research, I'm guessing it might be either 130.980 (130E - mounted in sedans) or 130.983 (130 - mounted in 280SL). I assume there are some differences in these two, probably important when ordering major parts for the engine.
Does anyone have an idea how to tell which one it is?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Wojtek
