Source for SEKURIT Windshields
« on: January 09, 2005, 09:01:25 »
Hi Group:

Does anyone have a source for SEKURIT windshields?  I need to find a "clear" one.  All of the glass shops in the Chicago area where I live have after-market PPG.  All of the PPG glass has a light green tint with a dark green band at the very top.  It does not look right for my 1964 230SL which has original clear side windows.

Thanks - Richard

Richard,

1)  Check with Caliber Motors or email Tom Hanson of this list, and see if he knows who supplies MB-USA with windshields.  They might be the same PPG ones but it is worth checking.  Don't have a heart attack if they do have them and you hear the price.

2)  You might check with some of our German or European members to see who makes the new windshields for the European market.

http://www.dbdepot.de has clear windshields for the 113. I think they do ship to the US. But if possible, go with laminated instead of sekurit..

I got a windshield from K&K a couple of years ago, and was given a choice of clear or tinted, you might try them.

I had to purchase one directly from an MBZ dealer.  It cost over $600USD.  At the time I bought it (late 2003), they obtained it from the Chicago area and mentioned that it was the only "Sekurit" model in the US.  All that said, it sounds like you can still get one (clear with no polar band), but you may have to order ahead.

Good Luck

In an earlier post I believe Tom Seargent said he had an MB windshield in his 280.

Van Dijk's here sell original and aftermarket windshields, both in the tinted and non-tinted variety.

For anyone "out of the loop", SEKURIT is the company who made the glass for the Pagodas and their name is shown on each glass piece.  I have Sekurit in all my hard top glass and the two door windows, but my windshield is something else.    :(

I went through this about two years ago as I wanted a clear W/S. I ended up ordering through American Service Center in Arlington, Va--an authorized MB dealer. It cost about $600.00. It is the original MB glass. Finding someone to install was another issue. I finally installed it myself after much research on the "rope trick" and with the help of my wife. It came out great, but got to tell you, figuring out the correct orientation of the seal on the glass took more time than the actual install. Good luck--George Des
