You can send it out for quartz conversion.  They also restore to like new condition.

I would second Hauser's comment. I sent out the clock for my 250 SL some number of years ago for the conversion to a quartz movement. The face remains as original and is always spot on for time.

Of course, you do not hear the small "click" as the spring resets, but for me, that was a small concession.

I have a few I have hoarded away I really should get sold I will post in for sale tomorrow, what date code are you looking for? I think I only have 280sl date codes but maybe a earlier one. I also have a quartz conversion one as I recall.
