Any interest in a Becker Pinstripe repair discussion group?
« on: December 19, 2017, 19:11:15 »
I've been trying to find on-line discussion of Becker radios from the mid 1960s through early 1970s.  I have fixed some myself and know a few others who have also fixed them.  I'm looking for a venue to share information, and above all, to avoid the "Send it to Becker in New Jersey".  Is anyone aware of a radio discussion forum for this type of radio?  Is there any interest in a sub group being created for this topic?

Yes,
Scott,
I am basically interested. Although I haven't got much knowledge to get these radios working again so far.
I have got a couple though ....

Maybe there are more of us interested in this topic??

Best,

I've also have a couple of Beckers from the 60's. I would be interested but I don't have any knowledge with electronics but willing to learn .

Well I'm wondering if we could have it as a sub-forum (or a sub-forum of the Vintage forum).  Not sure who to ask.  The way I see it working would be to have threads (subject lines) on a particular topic.  For example:  how to remove the push buttons from a Becker radio (there are at least two styles with different removal), how to open the cover, how to adjust the tuning knob so it moves the needle instead of just sliding, what the various adjustments do (antenna trimmer?), etc.

There is a staggering lack of this type of information on the internet, YouTube, etc.  There should be more info.

Scott,

We have the Technical Manual for just that type of information, which would be the first place members would likely look for information.

We already have a section there for Radio.    https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/Radio

Instead of starting a completely new area, why not just add in the headings and then add the information into the Tech Manual and that way it is there for everyone to see in the same format as all the other information on the various parts of a Pagoda?

All Full Members have access to the WIKI to add information.

That might be the way to do it.  Not sure.  I can certainly start there.  One concern is that it limits exposure of only some of us can write to it.  Can everyone read it?  Including people who aren't even part of sl113?

Everyone has read access to the Technical Manual with only some exceptions where Full Members only have access such as the Linkage Tour as an example.

All Full Members can write/add to it.
