Lock compensation differential or limilted slip diff

Hi Gents,
Mercedes calls it a ‘lock compensation differential’ which I assume is what is commonly known as a limited slip diff.
My 250SL has a 3.69 rear end, which is supposed to be ‘optional equipment’
My question, how could I determine if this is a limited slip diff or not?

One thing I recall is to jackup the car so you have both of the rear wheels off the ground. Then turn one of the rear wheels by hand. If the other wheel turns in the same direction it is limited-slip. If the other turns in the opposite direction it is a regular diff.

Hi,

A LSD diff would also have a metal plate bolted to the rear of the differantial housing, with the instructions to only use oil for a limited slip differential engraved.

Much appreciated, I have not noticed the bolted plate you mention. I’ll have another look in the morning.
I am in the process of replacing the torque converter. The prop shaft is disconnected and therefor, as yet, I cannot determine if I have a LSD or not. However, I will report back ASAP.
