Off-topic: Source for 300SL rear glass?
« on: January 18, 2005, 21:32:58 »
Hi

I'm sorry for the off-topic request, but does anyone know of a source for a 1956 300Sl rear glass in the Los Angeles area. Links to Gullwing and 300Sl related sites would be great too. Thanks very much.

Mark Passarelli in Arizona might be able to help you on this. Here's his email.  Ranchomercede@aol.com

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately he didn't know of any sources.

Does anyone else have any leads?

Check with Scott Grundorf or with David Twitchell.  Perhaps one of them can help or can steer you in the right direction.  Good luck.

Hjeltness Restorations in Escondido, CA is one of the top restorers for the W198. I'd start there.

Thanks Doug and 1969 280Sl 5 speed (Hauser) :)

I didn't have a contact number for David or Scott, but I did get ahold of Jerry at Hjeltness. He said that San Diego MB might still have one rear glass left over after over stocking last fall. It turns out they don't.
Before that I had already gone ahead and ordered a glass straight from Germany which should be about 10 days and $1800.

It looks like the $300 that I can get the Pagoda tinted windshield for is a good deal. If any Pagoda owners are in the market for any glass (or other used parts) feel free to contact me.
