Fuel lines colour
« on: August 09, 2018, 00:09:36 »
Hello everybody,

I am currently completing completing the restoration of an October 1963 230 SL and would like to confirm the colour of the fuel lines plating.

I believe I have read somewhere that on early cars they were only zinc plated and did not display the gold color found on later cars.

Could anyone confirm that this is correct and also that there was indeed no CAD plating in gold on early cars?

Many thanks for your help!

If you mean the fuel lines from the injection pump to the injectors then yes, they were always yellow CAD plated on early and late 230SLs.

If you have them replated make sure you plug the ends of the lines before plating.  There have been a few horror stories about lines coming back from plating plugged solid.
