Rear end carrier pivot shaft looks like it’s two pieces. Another thing is that the bushing had to be cutoff from the back of shaft and the new one will need to be pressed on. The photo shows the right side of shaft that is the problem of getting the bushing on and off. Is this right?

The parts book shows it as one piece, and it has one part number (110 351 00 74) with an expansion plug (000443 020000). It is the same part number from the beginning of production.

It's one piece. You won't need to press the new bushing on; you may need to clean up the mating surfaces with some emery cloth but it will slide on. At least, mine did.

If you have a good straightedge or a granite counter top to roll it on(wife not home) you might want to check it for straightness. You seem to be having a lot of issues with binding where there usually aren’t any.

I've seen where the eyes on the hinged part of the axle become twisted or bent. Everything in that area has to be perfectly straight for it to work right. I was lucky enough to have found the factory alignment tool for checking everything which would be difficult to do otherwise.

Dan,
When you get a chance could you post a picture of the tool? Curious what it looks like.

It's a heavy metal tube that slides into the eyes of the hinge. If it slides through both holes without binding the hinge area is straight, and if it doesn't, I heat the hinge a bit and try to tweak it into position. This is a fixture to check alignment and not something that will actually straighten anything.

That would explain why the pivot shaft looks like two sections, if you run your hands down the tube you can feel the groove in the center. I'm going to replace the shaft and then I'll realign the axel housing.

You should keep in mind that one end is slightly larger in diameter than the other end.
