I am in the process of restoring a 280 sl. I am looking for the sealant used on the interior floor board and in the trunk. It was a molasses looking color material that required a heat gun to remove.

Any ideas where to find original product or an acceptable replacement product

I have found "lizard Skin works very well. Available in heat shield and sound deaden  sealant.

The body shop applied the heart under the right front floors - then the sealed for sound dreading over the top.

It has been used by muscle and street rodders for a long time.

It really make for a real sound proof that does not get  hard and crack.

I think what you are referring to is the seam sealer that is applied on the interior seams only?  Several brands are available at any bidy ahop supply store.  In order to get the same look as the factory get a sealer in a caulking gun tube, apply a bead and brush over it with a stiff brush.

Hi Peterpan,

I hope your 280 SL renovation has gone smoothly.  I've started a project to restore my 66 230 SL and I live here in Fresno.  Would you be interested to share any suggestions you may have?

Best wishes,
