Nardi steering wheel for my 250SL
« on: September 26, 2018, 04:35:44 »
Hi I have a 67 250SL.

I just bought a Nardi steering wheel (/Vintage-Mahogany-Nardi-Steering-Wheel-Mercedes-Benz-250SL-280SL-450SL-W111-W114) that says it fits on late model 250SLs.

My car's number is 000386. Is this considered a late or an early model?

Much appreciated,

Seb

Seb, take a look at the production statistics in the Technical Manual (3rd button from the right above). I would say 386 out of 5196 produced is a very early 250SL!

Some of these sellers take a liberal approach to the list of vehicles their parts are supposed to fit. Sometimes they just don't know better or they try to attract a broader customer base and hope the buyer knows what they are looking for.
Especially ebay is terrible for the "fits" category, which will list everything you want from a Honda Step-Through to a Bugatti Veyron.
You are well advised to ask a lot of question BEFORE you buy. If the seller does not respond, don't buy.
I don't know for sure, but I would assume, at least the late 250SL has the "Pralltopf" steering wheel, which will make it a tad more difficult to adapt a classic aftermarket wheel not specifically designed for it.
