Even though I grew up on Long Island, I had to google [von] Steuben day, as I'd never heard of it. Even in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it was seemingly just a parade. But I digress...

Great photo! Nice to see the people kept at a safe distance with the crowd barricades!

3000 marchers 5th ave closed from 92nd sreet down to 60th- 28 groups from Germany and Austria, numerous floats, a contingent of multicolor beetles from the VW club and a pathetic showing from the Mercedes club-  seems everyone is afraid to bring their fragile little gems into the city.  Went to the central park oktoberfest after and despite the heresy parked in an NYC underground  garage-  throw the attendant a 20 when you arrive and the car gets virtual ropes around it
