BMW Pin

Hello fellow members

I was wondering if anyone can identify this BMW pin that I purchased at an estate sale.
It is approximately 1 and 3/4 inches tall and 1 and 1/2 inches wide, made out of metal with the BMW logo
formed and painted in, It also has a number one below the logo
There is also a serial number across the top 2591.  It attaches with a pin on the back.
Any information would be appreciated.

I have seen one of those before and I was told that it is an an employee pin from the motorcycle factory.
