Yes,
Code 230 is correct for the ZF-5-speed gear box together with the rear end ratio 4.08.
Later on during the production of the 280 SL changed to 3.92.
Maybe yours has got that already.

Congrats !

Dumrong, your car now has a 4 spd trans, but plate shows code 230 for a 5 spd?
What does your data card say?

Try emailing Tom Hanson at the Classic Center in Irvine California.  It will cost you $150.

Have you actually tried it through your local dealership? I received several datacards through the dealer. It is them who check your prove of ownership, which was mandatory, at least in my case. The clerks at the dealer may not know what you are talking about if they have not done that before, but they will move on when you are a bit patient, especially if you show them your e-mail.

Yes I tired to contact the local dealer with the email from Classic center but they said  the car is too old.

Ok, I am sorry you seem to be a bit stuck in this...

Well, this is exactly what I heard from my dealer when I first went to them. They say so because in the EPC system yo can get a datacard just by pressing one tag on the screen - but this applies to later cars. They do not know or do not want to bother with the procedure they should follow on your request:
- verify your ownership (I had to go there personally with a registration document)
- apply to Classic Centre for your datacard
- send it to you when they receive it (it comes via e-mail as pdf)

When I bounced off the spare parts clerk desk, I went straight to his manager. Then this procedure was standard and flawless.

I also think that most of the Members here would support the idea of e-mailing to Tom, who is very helpful. This way or another you will get it.
