Thermostat Housing
« on: May 28, 2019, 08:50:52 »
I am having difficulty in re moving the thermostat housing from the head, it seems to be seized onto the studs.

Can anyone help?

hi
if i remember correctly it took me some time to get the thermostat housing off the head in my car the last time i removed it.

not sure if i used an anti seize spray on the long stud or not.
eventually i came free.

Kent bergsma - mercedes source on YouTube - has a series of videos on sorting out W113 cars running rich. In one of the very early ones it covers removing the thermostat housing I believe.

Thanks for your advice, I have managed to get it off by driving a wedge through the joint ( nervous moments )

I use a bit of heat on things like this. Leaking antifreeze causes this problem and heat will help release the chalky crud that forms between the two dissimilar metals.

I did try some heat first so it probably helped, good to know I was going the right way.
