2 trans questions
« on: June 03, 2019, 00:24:03 »
My 67 SL had not been started for a month or so. I decided to take it out today and it would barely back out of the garage. The driveway slopes up coming out of the garage and when I got on the hill the car would not move. At one point the engine would not rev up although the pedal was pushed to the floor. I let the car drift forward a little and kept trying to move back and forth and it finally started to move. When the trans warmed up it pulled out fine the rest of the day.

The other problem is that I don't think it is shifting in to forth gear. At 60 mph the tach reads about 3700 rpm. Is this about right? I found a chart someplace that gave the rpm at different speeds but now I can't find it.

I did check the transmission fluid and it is at the proper level.

Any help and advice appreciated, Pete

Sounds like your revs are right. The transmission starts out in 2nd gear then shifts twice. Check your ignition timing for lack of power at low rpms.

At 3500 rpm my 250 automatic is going 100 kph = 62 mph.  After warm up go through the linkage tour and engine starting aid tour.  This is a first step and will eliminate a lot of guesswork.

If the engine is revving and the transmission feels like it is slipping you might have a stuck 3 way solenoid keeping the transmission control pressure low. This has been covered often here so just search 3 way solenoid.
