Front suspension
« on: May 29, 2019, 21:42:10 »
This topic probably been discussed before. Unfortunately I couldn’t find.
I am doing a complete restoration of my 250sl. The body is with a classic car restorers. I am tackling the mechanical side myself.
The drive train was removed by body up procedure.
Now,I am staring with complete overhaul of the front suspension.
I am not sure how to remove the front coil springs. Normal situation we use the weight of the car and trolley jack.
There is no room to put compression clamps.
It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could help me.

A safe and generally accepted method for the DIY is to use threaded rods and gradually release the spring tension. The front springs on the Pagoda are quite long. Same method can be used for assembly.

David B and Eric explain the procedure in this thread

I would NEVER use spring clamps! Good way to not be here next week............

Use the threaded screws. Not quickly done but whole lot safer.

Thanks to you all. I just did that. Two long threaded bars did it fine.
