hello
2 more questions as i work thru the rear axle rebuild.
I have been following the rear axle bearing tour and researching other posts such as Andy Burns post on restoration
https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=18284.msg146526#msg146526my questions are.
1. any tips on how to bend up the bearing lock plate with out damaging the bearing
found this on the rear axle bearing tour write up "In the end, and to avoid damaging the bearing, I tightened the nut fully, marked the two places on the locking plate, removed it and then pre-cut the locking plate with a hack saw. It made the job far easier."
2. do i need to have a length of pipe to seat the bearing on the axle, not sure how stubborn the bearings can be
installed the passenger side bearing with no issue, the driver side required pressing on
3. how tight do i need to make the bearing nut, depending on what you read it seems the bbb suggests about 140 ft lbs...
I talked to a MB shop yesterday about the bearing nut, i was told they do not use a special tool, they typically use an air hammer to get the nut nice and tight and then lock it down
thanks in advance
