Heat shields
« on: December 29, 2020, 06:26:43 »
Hi all,

Wishing everyone a much better 2021 than 2020!!!

I know where the long exhaust heat shield goes but not the smaller one - which also is a little bent but I'm assuming its part of a pagoda too but can't seem to find where it goes.

Any idea anyone?

Rgds, Joe

Hi,
there are 3 heat shields, see no. 79-81: https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/main/en/mercedes-230-280sl-w113-49-a-exhaust-system-standard-c-3_77.
Your small one belongs to the rear silencer.

getsmart, do not forget the small heat shield on the steering support bushing on the passenger side. It is seen on SLS picture, small rectangle with clamp in the front.

Thanks WRe and Pawel,

The rear muffler shield was my initial guess but the screw holes are missing so the previous owner has filled them in the restoration process - this is what threw me. The shield on the firewall I'll have to search through the boxes for, I don't remember seeing that as well as the one you mention Pawel.

Many thanks again :)

Hi Joe,

If yours is RHD, I’m not sure if there would be a heatshield under the steering box??

At least, there isn’t one on mine.

Cheers

Just remember that the exhaust manifold is going forward before returning back unlike LHD exhausts,
so some very different setups for heat shielding.
