Heyco 300mm slip joint.
« on: October 10, 2019, 19:13:04 »
Trying to fill in some missing parts of my tool. Have everything original, except the Heyco No. 300.  I realize that authentic classics sells a contemporary pair but without the three pointed star.  Looking for the real McCoy.

The real McCoy is extremely elusive. . . one of the very few original components missing from my otherwise quite original car.  Best of luck with your search. If you stumble on to more than one pair, keep me in mind.

Ebay is a good bet, but you will require patience and a quick "Buy" or "Bid" trigger finger

Sorry ,should have  shown members,---on ebay item 254286735445.
As you can see,$399 total ,but the tire wrenches, spanners, plug spanner ,
other pliars, etc, probably worth about $120--to $150,so
the Heyco 300 with mercedes star probably worth $150-$175,  now.
.--what do you think.---regards Wayne.

Thanks everyone.  I found one on eBay.  It was pricey $100 plus shipping but my toolkit is complete and period correct!

Great ,good buy, these will be double this price in about two years,
Compare these to  a Ferrari Dino phillips red 10,000  v,screw driver,
ebay item 161792116811----$1000,and the seller  sells these  all the time with 100% feed back.
And any Dinsmore dash compass for sale these days.

lreppond,

Of course I had to look.  Nice find.  Not to pee in the pool, but the one you bought was black anodized, which would have been correct for the 190SL, or very early 230SL's.  If you've got a 70 or 71 280SL, the correct one would be chrome plated and very shiny.  No one grades tool kits at the concours level, (even Peter Lesler) so I'm sure its not a big deal, except for Obsessive types like me, Hans, Jon, and Achim.

Obsessively yours,

Right you are :)
There were two types, an earlier which had "diamond" type jaws, this was semi-matte chromated.
A later model of the Heyco "300" type had "oval" type jaws, this one was shiny plated. See pictures attached

For the earlier car models, also 300 ("Adenauer") and 300SL there were slip joint pliers made by Heyco, and also Walter. These were black anodized, see attached.

W121  190SL did not have these pliers; see document http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/maintenance/MB_Tool_Kits.pdf

I have an older Mercedes Benz partial tool roll that I was thinking about putting up on eBay. My question is which Heyco 300mm pliers are the correct ones the diamond or oval.

Diamond for earlier cars.  Oval for later. I think they started in 69 or 70.  Someone will chime in with exact date 😁
