Advice sought for recommissioning engine
« on: February 08, 2020, 20:12:48 »
I rebuilt the 280 engine in my Pagoda some 8 years ago.  It has never been run since, but I have regularly sprayed fogging oil in the cylinders and turned over the engine.
Now, finally back in the car, I am ready to get this running.
I would appreciate any advice on first start attempt, including:
  • Pre-oiling procedure?
  • Injector pump and lines purging

Thanks in advance.. Hope springs eternal

Pull the spark plugs out and spin your engine over with using your starter until you see full oil pressure on your gauge.

Does the oil pressure go to max at rpm generated by the starter?

Oh yes. Easily with cold oil and with the spark plugs removed.

If you loosen the pipes at the injectors while you spin the engine w/o plugs, it will help purge air from the lines.

Also, when you crank to start the engine, having an assistant energize/tap the cold start valve with a lead from battery positive will help the engine fire and keep running until the pump comes up to full pressure.
