Oil leak from injection pump
« on: March 04, 2005, 20:31:23 »
My '69 280 SL has an engine oil leak which appears to be coming from the linkage shaft that goes into the injection pump.  Is there a seal I can buy or "o" ring to stop the leak?  Mercedes dealer has no parts and says to buy an injection pump.

Thanks.

Phil,

the basic answer is don't ever remove the lever arm from the injection pump, 'cause if you do you'll never get it back in the right place, and then you'll be sending the pump off for a rebuild anyway.

From what George said, you sould probably make sure that you know the source of the leak.  I've heard from other very experienced people like George that this is a part that you don't remove.

I seem to remember someone doing that for this list and we saved it before it broke. A few others I've helped weren't so lucky......
