A very comprehensive site for codes
« on: November 16, 2003, 14:29:42 »
Here is a link with a very comprehensive list of Mercedes codes. It has more codes than I have seen anywhere on the internet. So for those of you who want your data card explained, this is the place to look. Also check out the rest of this homepage it is very exhaustive. BUT SOME IS IN JAPANESE!

Thanks Mulrik. That really is a thorough and enlightening list. Nice thing is the dates where numbers have been duplicated. Rodd, I stand corrected, as you were right about 325 being 2K laquer (and not the groovy radio-phone option) ... It still had to be one of the coolest cars of 1963!

Now if you'd REALLY like to see something neat, click on the "Code Decoder" link at the top of the Japanese page and you will be transported to the appropraite page on the Mercedes-Benz Club of Russia web-site.  Click on "English" in the upper right-hand corner and you will find that you can enter a code and select the proper category and you will get a fairly complete description for that code.  Not bad!

aussie230sl:

Nice looking car!

Your list and translations are really comprehensive.   I do have a few clarifications or corrections:

Schicht-Nr.  =   (work)shift number

Ausstattung:  I believe the final 1 means "individual front seats",
and that 416 means "equipped with both hard and soft tops"

There are two front axle numbers, one for each side:
Vorderachse li. = left front axle number
Vorderachse re. =  right front axle number

Bereifung 5-fach = 5-ply tires

I had a guy decode my data card, he said mine was quite interesting as it was sold without a hardtop and that it was originally shipped to St. Pierre Et Miquelon, which are a pair of tiny little islands off the coast of Newfoundland.  After dropping the subframe, I found a bunch of sand up in it.  There was also sand packed in the A-Arms.  I guess the car spent a lot of time on the beaches there.
