1970 W111 280SE M130

Hi members
I own a W111 column shift model and the horn goes off when I turn the SW. 
I replaced the 2 bushings in the shift rod behind the horn plate to no avail.
The shift rod mechanism seems to protrude too far up into the SW mechanism and makes contact with the horn ring base
Is there another bushing I have missed.
The parts catalog indicates the 2
Did the shift mechanism assembly go out of adjustment?
Did I connect the shift linkage incorrectly when I reinstalled the transmission?

I just did this job on a 600, they use the same bushings. There were many bushings, but it was the 2 on the top that made the horn go off by making contact with the back of the clock spring.

One was on the front, and other you had to push the shaft down and it was on the back side. There were clips that held it down in place. We did not have to unbolt the steering column at the firewall to do these 2 at the top.
If I am reading my notes correctly, I believe the part # was 111-997-12-40

Thank you. I removed the C clip and placed both bushings inside but after assembling it I continue to have the same problem.  Maybe both bushings don't go on top of the other ?

That is correct, they do not get stacked. Only 1 goes on the top side. One is on the back you cant see, look at my second arrow. Column should be spring loaded, see if you can use a screwdriver to push it down far enough to get to the backside.
