Power Steering
« on: May 14, 2020, 01:07:08 »
I am replacing the low pressure PS hoses because the two that I took off had been”sweating” fluid.  They were literally leaking along their full length?  These weren’t doing that before.
So I’m wondering if I had put Automatic Transmission Fluid in by mistake and if so, could that result with this condition?  I don’t think I did but it makes me wonder.  Would ATF cause this?  And actually, the old hose looks like heater hose, but I have driven the car for years without this being an issue.
Thoughts?

I thought the power steering fluid is the same as the transmission fluid dexron mercon [sic]

Mine did the same and I replaced the pipes and now it’s ok

Hi,
Yes, both ATF oil.
For automatic transmission (K4A025) especially ATF Type A - Suffix A, MB 236.2.
For power steering the same or according to MB 236.3/236.7 (236.6H).

The hoses that leak may have been really old or not P/S hoses. There are so many materials in hoses, designed for a specific application and it could be, someone used a hose they had available rather than specific P/S stuff.
