Hood Mounting and Alignment

I just mounted my hood and aligned it, just to find when complete that it is very close but not just right.  Do we have procedure that works best?  I do want to align it better soon.

Where are your fit problems?

Hi,
there are only 2 possibilities to align the hood:
- Horizontal: At the hood hinge/mounting
- Vertical: At the inner fender
Most problems are loose and rusted nut cages at the hood and broken mountings, see pictures.
Possible repairs: New cage nuts.

The fit problems are most obvious at the cowl.  The gap is tight on the passenger side, almost touching but not quite.  The driver's side is not as bad and is close to acceptable.  The vertical fitment along the periphery seems OK.  So I expect that the adjustment must be in the mount points on the hood itself (and not so much on the hinge points on the body).  The difficulty is adjusting the points on the hood without losing the point of reference that you're adjusting "from".  Wouldn't it be great if you could put the hood in the correct position (correct gaps) and simply tighten the bolts from below?

Open the hood completely loosen the two bolts on the passenger side just enough to move the hood downward with it open. Tighten and close slowly while checking for any clearance problems at the grille screen or front body panel. The gap at the cowl should be better?
