Right Rear Wheel Bearing 1208
« on: October 12, 2023, 23:55:57 »
Hello All,

I had a quick look around the forum to see if anyone had encountered this issue and I can’t seem to see anything relating to it.

I’ve purchased an SKF 1208 EKTN9/C3 bearing as seen in an earlier post regarding these bearings.

The problem I have is that it slides straight on to the axle, no pressing of the inner race required.

I have measured the inner diameter of the old bearing vs the new and the old measures 40.00mm and the new 40.87mm.

Whilst I know that it is tightened to 200nm , I’m a little concerned about it just sliding on and not requiring any pressing.

I thought I’d put my dilemma to the knowledge of the group before I look to order another bearing somewhere else.

I guess I need to know if the new bearing would be ok, given it’s done up tight and won’t spin or do I err on the side of caution and order another bearing?

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks Doug.

40.87 versus 40.00 is way too much. Not even close. You have the wrong bearing.
Can you add the link to the post you are referring to?
One side (left) is a ball bearing, the other side (right) is a roller bearing.
Both are 40 x 80 x 18.

Looks like you have a tapered bearing.

Hi Dirk,

This is the post I am referring to.

https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=22226.0

You are correct it is the incorrect bearing, although it is self aligning. There is some conjecture in this post and after discussing this with my parts supplier, I am going to get the correct barrel type bearing.

I’ll chalk the money I spent on this bearing up to experience.

Thanks for your response.

Doug.
