Whitewalls - should have posted this earlier

One of my more challenging tasks has been to satisfy my need to make our (my wife's SL) perform a little better but maintain what my wife wants as a "classic" look.   So, wheels and tires became a challenge.  My first try was reconditioned 15X7 aluminum (powder coated chrome) wheels and tires (which I have for sale now  ) with good handling tires on wider and taller rims (80's S class slotted aluminum wheels).   After searching and researching I found some 14" Merc aluminum wheels from an early diesel car.  I sourced some good performing 70 series General tires and I was happy but they didn't come with whitewalls which was a deal breaker for my spouse.  Hence this post on adding whitewalls.  I evaluated what was available and decided on "glue ons" - "Tire Stickers" to be exact.  They came out quite well - not concourse but acceptable but were more work that I imagined and I've got some lessons learned.  If anyone is interested I'll post details. 

The end result of the Koni adjustable shocks, much lighter wheels and 70 series tires has made a very positive difference in handling.  And my wife is very happy..

Were the aluminium wheels you put on 5.5" or 6"?   -

Do you have pictures of the stick on white walls - that sounds like a good option.

this is the second set  14X5" MB diesel sedan wheels - very light weight (about 7 lbs. )  The WW's are a bit challenging to apply - about 2 hours per tire and I have some tips on how to order and apply them.. 

let me know if you want to see the other set - they are 15X6" later MB slotted wheels with wider tires..

I started down the 15” ally route. I bought a set of 14x5.5s from Scoot years ago  but not so keen on the Bundts on a lighter coloured car
This is off an early SLK200. Needs a 10mm spacer on the rear to give the right exhaust clearance but... other than sitting a little proud, the hubcaps fit. I didn’t try this on the front. The wheels are dead cheap. The hubcaps not so much
