Seat Assembly Problem

Since assembling the seats I received back from Heritage, I have found it very difficult to get the seatback adjustment shaft to stay meshed with the teeth in the gear on the opposite side from the handwheel. After moving about in the seat a bit the points of the tip of the shaft slips out of the gear and the seatback slides back on that side, becoming unbalanced.

In looking up the parts on the SLS website I see that there was another design for the end of the shaft at some point in production. In my 280SL, it just ends with 4 tines.

Is anyone familiar with this issue and has anyone had this problem and arrived at a solution that keeps it from sliding out of the gears?

I am probably not helping there, but I see in the parts list that as of ident. no.: 042 018290 there were 4 circlips for this shaft, PN N 006799 009002.

But that you probably know...

Along the lines of Pawel, are you sure the seat mechanism has all the parts and went back correctly?

Can you post a picture of exactly how the gear falls out of the teeth?  Is the retaining spring correctly installed and tight?

My seats are with my car in a repair shop over the weekend. However, I have these photos that I took while I was preparing to assemble the seats after receiving them from Heritage.

Which one? The circlip? This is a generic, standard item, just need to know the diameter.

No, not the cir clip, rather I need the 2-3 in long single leaf spring that keeps the pinion and quadrant in contact

The gear pinion with the 3 prongs needs to be located in the same position of the "crocodile teeth" (marked in Red here) on both sides.

You can pull back the "crocodile teeth" to relocate the pinion if needed.
