Loosey goose manual floor shifter

I was always hunting for gears on my floor mounted shifter, so I had the bushings replaced.  It feels better but not as precise as I would like it.  Can someone who has a floor mounted shifter describe what this should feel like?  On other cars I have owned, I had to overcome a distinct resistance to get to the 1-2 plane, and another set of resistance to get into reverse.  On my car, there is no distinct H-pattern, so I shift by feeling rather than by being guided by a mechanical pattern.  Any feedback is appreciated.

Ours is for sure not a "snick snick" type of shifter. Its a bit vague. If you have replaced everything, and confirmed that the support rods are tight, it might just be what it is. When we got the car, had to replace one of the rods (nut was stripped by someone not allowing it to be able to be tightened). Now 2 years later, had to change the rods bushings, they broke down (didnt change them initially as the looked fine at the time).

Edit, also check the shifting shaft it self, Mine had ovalized causing a lot of slop, here is a pic of mine before replacement. I did fine an inexpensive replacement vs the weld

Resistance to get to reverse, slap left and then down.  1/2 to the left stop, 3/4 to the right stop.  I have no trouble finding any gear or feel that it's vague.  It's very nice shifting and much like my 190 SL.

I replaced all the bushings. The main issue was not the ones immediately under the lever. It was the bushings at the front of the selector rod where it connects to the gearbox. This was covered by specracer.
