Correct Fan Bolt Size- Fan Clutch to Pulley
« on: June 27, 2020, 19:25:13 »
I'm trying to figure out the correct bolt size and length of the (4) bolts that hold the fan/fan clutch to the water pump pulley on 1965 230sl. I saw on a video from Kent at Mercedessource (YouTube) that some cars have incorrect length bolts that make it very difficult to get the bolts mounted and tightened due to their too long length. Does anyone know the correct size for those (4) bolts. Mine seem quite long at 40 mm. Are there shorter ones required? Thanks.

Hi,
4 shouldered/collar screws M8x16 wrench size 10 which is not standard (ws 13) and the main problem because it causes round heads.

When I did this job, I ended up finding this bolt from a motorcycle application. Apico p/n 024-20816 has all the right specs. I'm not sure whether the length of these bolts may depend on whether you use the long pump or the short pump plus spacer.

Hi,
MB part number is A1149900010, current price 6,16€.
I ended up with the standard screw (ws13) but found it with ws10 in motorbike shops too (KTM).
