230SL Throttle Linkage Dismantling

Does the throttle linkage shaft just pull out of the socket? I have pulled pretty hard and it does not want to budge. I don't want to break anything. Any tricks to getting it apart?

Hi,
you have to press it out, a little circlip holds it in place:

Might also try to put some light oil or penetrant on the ball in case there is none. That will help it pull out easier.

Think I'll just leave it alone and paint it out of the car but while assembled. It ain't broke...just want to make it look pretty.

It will pop out of the socket with the brass bushing. However you can remove the "C" clip, which leaves the brass ball bushing in place and also remove the linkage rod.

Hi,
Disconnect all the rods and the mounting bracket on the left side of the engine.
Then give it a strong pull. It should snap out.

One can tap the cross bar sideways gently, with a plastic mallet

This is a similar socket design in theory to the smaller throttle linkage sockets. It is just bigger and requires more force to pop out.
