Stuttgart Museum 230SL in 2-tone Tunis/Blue
« on: August 01, 2020, 08:53:53 »
Hi All.

I'm brand new to this forum having just put a deposit down on a Tunis Beige SL.

According to Google, there's a Tunis Beige W113 at the Stuttgart Museum. It's a two tone car with a strange colour combination featuring a blue hard top and hub caps. Do a Google search and you'll find it. "Gold" and blue wouldn't necessarily be my choice, but it seems to work.

The purists may cringe, but I quite fancy this colour scheme on mine.

So my question is, does anyone know which colour blue features on this car? Does anyone have any better images of the same car - the internet images available don't show the colour as well as they could.

Here's a link....

Nice, no?

Hi,
see here: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=24685.msg176459#msg176459.
The blue colour of the hardtop and the chrome for the wheel arches (never original or optional) look strange for me. A black or better an original hardtop would fit better in my opinion. Seeing that you drive open most of the time this hardtop would be stored in your garage anyway.

Hey Wre.

That is the EXACT car....but again, not the best image. I was hoping to see one outdoors in the light, or even better that someone tell me the colour code for the blue.

My SL (it's strange saying that since I haven't got it yet) has it's OG hardtop in it's OG paint of Tunis Beige, like the rest of the car and the hub caps. But I thought maybe I could "pimp" it a bit   ;D

So not takers for having a guess of the blue shown on this example in Stuttgart?

I also like the combo - and agree with every re: Chrome Trims ( l just wanted to rip them off myself).

Here’s a photo l took in 2013. It’s definitely a Metallic colour - so it must be 387H or 396G. I think 387H.

I didn’t have my Tunis Beige 250SL back then or l might have taken more photos. My Blue 280SL is Two-Tone with a 387H Hardtop. Mine generally looks darker than the Museum car but the lighting was so bright in the museum it is possible that it is the same (you can see the hubcaps appear darker than the roof due to the lighting).

Sully, l also toy with the idea of going two-tone with my 250SL, but l was thinking Black or Dark Brown Hardtop. I do believe a Metallic body should have a Metallic Hardtop though - so that rules out Black or Brown.

Guess l will leave it as is 😊

I have a postcard picture of that car somewhere. MB was selling that in the museum years ago. I will try to find it and scan it.

I found the postcard. Unfortunately, it was mounted in a frame in my office and the colors are totally faded. The back says it is a 1964 230SL.

Have seen this picture many times before and personaly like the combo.

Take a brave leap of faith Sully and go for it, it does work very well.

Looks like DB350 Mittleblau to me.

Except DB350 is a Solid colour. I was fairly certain it was Metallic.

Don't they usually pair Metallic with Metallic in a Two-Tone car?

Why do say it is not original?

Rob,
I agree.  It does look metallic up close.
