Top compartment finish question.

So the top compartment lid on my car looks like the entire thing was assembled then painted black. Latches, bolts and all. Also in researching this I see a bunch of cars with the latches in the compartment painted black as well. Does anyone have insight into what is correct?

When I looked into this about a year ago, I understood the color of the interior of the soft top compartment and the inside of the trunk/boot to not be black, but tiefdunkelgrau - dark grey? I picked up a few single-stage cans of it.
Attached is the PPG color formula
Confirmation, anyone?

For sure for 280sl’s. The hardware should not be painted. I believe a silver finish. Silver cad?

Gary,
Dark Grey i correct
In my 230, whilst the trunk lid has been removed a few times, it has never been repainted and fittings are dark grey as is the interior of the boot.
If there was a change, i don’t know when that occurred.

The trunk bolts that hold the trunk lid on are indeed painted as in your photo.
I think the OP is talking about soft top lid and hardware.
The catches should be silver. I thought hinge bolts/washers also but can’t confirm at this time.
