The dashpot failed (lost its retard action) so I ordered and received a replacement from SLS.
I checked it against the great info in the Tech Manual and the dimensions are good HOWEVER it doesn`t seem to do the job.
The operating shaft only has a range of about 4mm (5/16?) and the retard action isn`t particularly strong so when I installed it it basically did nothing.
I disconnected the linkage so it only had to retard the air arm and it still did nothing.
So.........is the new dashpot at fault, are the springs in my linkeage network too strong, is there a trick to installing it or all of the above/non of the above.
BTW, the old one that failed wasn`t a genuine MB - many years ago I took advice from the Tech Manual and ordered a GM of Ford part - for less than $30 it provided sterling service.......unfortunately I cannot find the paperwork from that purchase. The dimensions were the same as the SLS replacement however the retard action was much stronger with a greater travel.
