Mb Tex seat covers for a Mercedes 280 SL 1971
« on: December 27, 2020, 21:48:23 »
Hello everyone, I'm a long time reader of the forum.

My seat covers are currently worn out. Therefor I'm looking for a place to buy Mb Tex seat covers for a Mercedes 280 SL 1971.
Does anyone have any recommendation and experience of any good seller?
Would be a great advantage, but perhaps not realistic if there is some seller in Europe?

Very grateful for any help!

Greetings,
Janne from Sweden

A well known company in Europe is KHM (www.cabrio.de). I am not sure if they offer MB Tex, though... But they have a list of trimming companies that may be helpful.

If you allow a thought that an upholsterer makes them for you, the good source of MBTex may be Hans Reinke.

If your seats are just sagging a bit and the Tex is not split or torn you might be able to rejuvenate your seats by just replacing the padding.  A good winter project! Type "horse hair" in the "Search" box under the Pagoda SL Group logo at the top right of the page for a wealth of information.

Thank you very much for your replies. I want Mb Tex because otherwise I'd feel the need to change the entire interior of the car and KHM only sells leather, which become somewhat pricey.

When I bought the car 25 years ago, the previous owner had done the attached seat cover repair. This is a bit difficult balancing act for me right now..
Do you think it will be beneficial to fix a new upholstery with the existing repair?
Or should I instead invest in buying a seat cover from a (for me) unknown company in the States?

Any feedback or ideas are appreciated.
Many thanks!

An upholstery shop should be able to replace the panel that you show as repaired. The difficulty will be in finding a piece of MB-Tex (or vinyl) that will match the color and pattern.

A friend of mine had a very similar hole in his driver's seat. He just wanted to get close, so we did the best we could on finding a match. The upholstery shop here in SoCal did a super job in replacing the worn through panel.

My MB Tex is green. I had a similar issue and I watched Ebay for maybe a year but eventually found a seller that was replacing his original green interior.
I bought the pieces from him for a relatively small amount.

If I could find green Tex, black should be much easier. Just keep watching Ebay.  I think it's worth it to keep your original interior.

@2129,

I have an seat back in black MB Tex. From memory it looks like a good match if you want to go the route JonB suggests ( just replacing the panel).

If interested, pm me with your email address and I can send some pictures. You can make your decision from there.

I bought a set of mb tex covers from German Auto tops  in southern California.  They are a perfect match to the original texture and stiching.  Contact John at 818-766-9511

Thank you for all the helpful comments, ideas and offers.
After considering my options and your feedback, I will try to stick with the original and contact a experienced upholstery guy to change the panel and fix the stuffing.
