I've attempted to explain how I remove the transverse spring and hopefully this picture will help out.
Loosen the two screws on the right-hand bracket and then pry upward with a crowbar to relieve the tension on the spring. Carefully remove the right side screw and let the bracket swivel down out of the way. The spring will simply drop out of place. No need for spring compressors or anything else.
