Hardtop Rear Window Defrost with Defrost Device
« on: April 06, 2021, 14:25:26 »
Hello

New in the forum. Great forum!
I am renovating a 1971 SL280 with US origin.

I am looking for a replacement rear window for the hardtop with the Defrost system, ideally tinted. I can only find Rear Window without defrost.
Ideally if you also have the wiring and the plugs would help as well.
This would need to be shipped oversees... Old Europe (France).

Thanks for your tips

Hi!

As for the heated rear window - if you find one, please buy 2. I have been looking for it for 5 years now...

As for the wiring: if you use search function and punch in "heated rear window wiring" you will get a lot of hits on this topic as it has been discussed many times - probably you will get to know what you need, e.g.:

I would strongly encourage you to become a Full Member and have the access to Technical Manual - if you are starting your journey with a Pagoda - this will be the best investment, I think, one can make in this area.

Hi

Many thanks for the hints and link.
Sure I'll let you know if I find that rear window... I'll keep looking on both side of the Atlantic (although most said nearly impossible to find in Europe as most of the 71's models were sold to US.)

For the membership I will surely consider!

The heated window was standard for late W113 for the US, true. But it has been optional for any market before. I do not why people think heated rear window was only for late US cars, I am not sure where this is coming from...

My car is 1970 Euro and it had the heated window, just for example.

My US model 280SL is a late example (12/70); yet, it doesn't have the rear window defrost.  I suspect it was an option throughout.

Thanks, so even that may not be accurate - standard for late US.

Heated rear window option codes 246 through to 249 as per Technical Manual.

So if its on your data card, it came with the car, if the option is not on the Data Card, but you have it then maybe a PO has installed one.
