well, looks like I'll need a radio plate too (230SL)
« on: February 02, 2021, 20:14:21 »
I've got a slimface Europa TG on the way from Becker Autosound and I just discovered (like an hour ago) that my radio plate has been cut to fit a later (larger DIN) radio. Since I have a 230/250 radio plate, I just assumed I had a slimface radio in the car- it never occurred to me that a PO had cut the plate - until I measured it....rats!

Charles,

Bud's and Authenticclassic should have this dash piece as well.
Ask them.
Or you'll find an original one (NLA by the way): A113 689 0139.

 ;)

Yes, I know - its just a hassle to have to match/buy the paint, get my paint 'stuff together, and spray a new one. I've got some dark blue (DB 332) leftover from when I sprayed the wheels and hubcaps..but it'll need to be an exact match with the dash and glovebox door - which with my luck, it won't be :(.  no big deal, I just wasn't expecting the aggravation.

Charles, I am sure you will find your radio plate. I’ve not turned my radio on in 7 years, I prefer to listen to my engine, in time I am certain you will too.

If you do need a radio, use your cell phone wireless with this have a peek below. I have one for 5 years and love it when I do like to listen to my own music :)

Or you can put in a big-face Becker.  I am sorry this has happened, particularly after you spent $$$ for what I assume is a nice TG.  Post pic of radio.

I took out a big-face Europa MU (which I mistook to be a slimface). I figured since I had a radio plate it was a slimface - I didn't realize the plate had been cut to accommodate a big face radio. I've not received the TG yet - I'll ask Tom to send a picture before it ships.

You might see if you can cancel your order unless you are planning on switching the dash metal plate...

I'm glad you are going that direction.  Much better to have an actual small-face radio in the dash.  Yay!

The new radio plate from Auth Classics arrived yesterday. Using the old plate as a template, I drilled holes for the chrome trim, then sanded and primed it. I plan to spray it dark blue/332 over the weekend. The Europa TG from Becker Autosound will be here next week so the paint will have at least 3 to 4 days to harden. Becker Autosound sent some pictures of the radio but they're not very good.. Tom Mitchell sounded pretty busy and I didn't want to bug him for more pictures.

Pics look good to me!  At least it is the right radio!
Yay for your project.

I've been side-tracked these last couple of weeks but finally managed to install the Europa TG. It looks good, sounds good, so I guess this concludes my Winter project ;)..

It looks just right and will probably work great for decades. Worth the effort.
