I drove my 280sl for the very first time last Friday up Wildcat Canyon Road, just outside San Diego. Wow! What fun. Brian has about another week's worth of miscellaneous stuff, trim work mostly (black steering wheel still on for example), etc. etc. and then we'll ship it here.

I'll post several pictures in the photo gallery once I get the car here, meantime here is another HauserTeaser or two.

One more question (ready Doug?) When I drove the car and it got warmed up really good the coolant overflow tank expelled some coolant as it was a little over filled. If you look at the cap on the tank in the photo below, you'll see a little bent metal overflow tube that seems to need a rubber hose or something attached to it to take the overflow through the engine bay to the ground, keeping overflow from dripping into the bay itself. It seems if you added a rubber hose it would pass right down past the manifold (ouch) rendering it useless i.e. melted. Anybody know the solution to this?

It came from the factory without a hose on the expansion tank there, but some owners like to add one. If you want it to look original, don't add a hose.

And let me add that is one gorgeous SL.  Congratulations, Ed.

(One more thing -- since you've gone berserk on the engine bay, you should get the right hoseclamps. Either Norma or, better yet, Gemi.)

Okay Ed!  I guess I'll just have to wait for the official unveiling in the photo section.

As for the overflow tank you could always add a hose.  I can't blame you for wanting to keep the engine bay as pritine as possible.

The car looks GREAT! :D

On the clamps (can you feel the topic drifting away?   :D  ), the one on the hose leading away from the overflow tank to the radiator(?) is a common modern clamp.  What are the ones on the short heater core hose by the firewall?  I don't recognize them, perhaps they are historically correct type?
