Oil Pan Leak
« on: May 26, 2003, 12:32:15 »
I found some oil under my car. I crawled under it and it seems that it is coming from the oil pan gasket. I checked the allen screws and found a few of them loose. I tightened them up and I believe that the leak has stopped for now. My question is are there supposed to be lock washers to stop these bolts from loosening or should I use "locktite" on the threads to make sure they do not loosen up?
Thanks,
Ted 1969 280SL

Hello Ted,
These bolts have a flat washer. It is not unusual for these to loosen after years of use the sub-pan gasket probsbly shrinks little. A little locktite will not hurt, however just tightening them should last for years.
