M127 piston variants
« on: March 13, 2021, 03:01:34 »
I’m looking at the latest generation of the piston A 180 030 73 18.
I would like to know what is the measurement from the centre of the wrist pin to the top of the piston on the original Mercedes part. I purchased a set of pistons for the 1st bore from Kolbenschmidt and the measurements are not exactly the same. Granted pistons that were in the engine could have been changed by the previous owner. They are of the Mahle brand. Both are 3 ring designs with 25mm wrist pin and flat top.
If anyone got some around the shop, I would appreciate those measurements very much.

Thank you Stick,
2nd time the charm.
I’ve looked at it before but the numbers did not correspond to the measurements I got. Now looking at the whole table more carefully, not only the 230 part, I’m more certain that I must have got a mislabeled box. I’m measuring >3mm (130thou) short versus the original piston. According to the table I should only see .6mm (24thou) difference.
Now looking at the 250 variant of the piston those measurements are right on the money.
It seems to me that a new piston search maybe on the cards here. Such a bummer, I was so pleased when the work on the engine started, now yet another delay.

If anyone here got a set of first bore (82.50) 3rd generation pistons, please let me know. My 250 set will probably be offered for sale when all is confirmed to be a 100% correct.

Are you referring to the 250 pistons?
