diaggram of the 6-way USA switch
« on: July 19, 2021, 18:54:50 »
I’m looking for the diagram of the 6-way switch - USA version see below.

I found on the forum the 4-way diagram, but the USA version is 6 way.
Does somone has the diaggram of the 6-way USA switch.

Thanks Peter

Hi,
see att. picture.

In the 6-way, I see only 4 connections. What do the other two do?

Put your switch on each of the positions and observe with a multimeter connected to the two unknown function post when do they have continuity.  Let’s do some Sherlock Holmes investigation on them  to find out the answer.

Hi,
according to the wiring diagram, only 4 poles are connected and must be plugged in accordingly*:
1.) From fuse 5 black-yellow-red cable 0.75  mm²
2.) To ignition starter switch violet-white 2.5  mm²
3.) To reverse light gray-yellow 0.75  mm²
4.) To starter terminal 50 violet 2.5 mm²

Peter, if your car has a 6-way switch, you could open the plug to see if those last two sockets have any wires connected to them.

Peter:

The two bottom cables, un-identified so far seem to be one light green and the other green with a white stripe.

Peter please confirm the colors to look at the BBB And other electrical manuals I have on hand to discover what for are they….

Best regards

Found the answer

Look at the attached picture from a MB Electrical manual.

The two until now Un-identified cables are related to the kick-down switch lacing, to be sure the car is in DRIVE to activate the kick down.

Pin 107 cable black red green feed wire from fuse 3 on automatic cars
Pin  119 green cable going to the kick down switch feed side, from there to the transmission selenoid.

Best regards

Dear Gents,

My car is a 280SL/8 1969 (USA version) with “emission control”.
Below the 6-way connector with wire colors
• The two green wires on the left are from the shut of solenoid on the Fuel Injection Pump.
• The others I will check later. But most probably they are what WRe has in his drawing.
• Question: The “anlass sperrcontact” is preventing starting in any position expect P?

Hi,
if you look in my document that describes the functions of all complementary components of the Emission Control System
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/EmissionControlSystem
you'll find on page 4 the two additional connections from the 6-way Start Lock Switch (14) one to the Speed Relay (4) and one via a cable connector (27) to the Idle Throttle Switch (15) if I don't have an optical deflection.

I have an Emission control system 280SL USA 1968/1969 – not 70/71.

below the overview:
“6 - the micro switch” and “7 - the fuel cut off solenoid” are connected via green wires which run via the 6-way connector and switch.

this is what I have on my 1969 280sl automatic.

the small wire in the upper center position looks to be another grey/yellow wire but is actually a black wire with red stripe.
