windshield replacement

Hi
The car has just been painted and there is no trim etc at all on the window frame Ie a pillar covers are off, all chrome is off, glued leather is off.  Does any trim need to be installed before the window goes in (I'm not referring to the aluminum strip that goes into the rubber ... I know about it)?

Hi Col,
Yes, the top of the window frame is covered with the same leather as the rest of the upholstery.
I am busy redoing my upholstery and would have to remove the windscreen as well. It might be possible to tuck the leather under the screen rubber but I doubt it.

I got the screen in yesterday. The top and side chrome and the leather needs to be in.  Looks really good.
Don't forget to put a cord on the outside as well so you can pull the rubber over the chrome.

You are correct.  Chrome pillar covers, top cover and leather in your case (My MB-tex interior has removable inner trim) need to be in.  Rubber goes on the windshield, the molding goes in the grove of the rubber and the entire assembly goes into the car.  A couple tricks I picked up are when you are putting the wire or cord into the groove so you can flip the rubber over the body on install leave a small loop at the top and the bottom so you can either work in one direction or the other as needed.  I also did mine solo so a ratchet strap around the windshield and pillars provided a little tension to help get it all together.

The hardest part was putting the rubber on the glass.... My tips are...
Use gaffa tape to hold the rubber on the glass whilst your fitting the rubber.
Once the aluminum is in it holds the rubber on so the gaffa can come off.
Shape the aluminium before installing it.
Grab the KY from the bedroom as it helps get everything in
Cord on both sides of the rubber
I started at the top and I think it was probably easier this way
Fit the window perfectly in up/down and lerft/right geometry before installing as it won't move after it's in
Use the non setting mercedes sealant.
Make sure the A pillar trim and dash wood is out.
Use proper glass suction cups to pull the glass towards you as you cord it in
Work the cord around in both directions to get it in nicely.
Not too difficult and pretty rewarding.
