1964 230 SL ( with vertical spare wheel )
« on: October 04, 2021, 18:58:53 »
Good evening all

I would like to know if there was ever a standard chrome piece attached to the body between the rear light and beneath the number plate.
This especially on a 1964 230 SL ( with Vertical spare wheel )

Thank you

Zazozazo, to clarify first, then to answer, if you mean this chrome strip piece on the picture under the register plate. If yes, it was more the US/Euro thing. The Euro cars had it, the US cars did not - as the US plates would not fit there.

For 113042 in parts catalogue there is no distinction between the US cars and worldwide cars and this chrome strip is shown on the parts list anyway.

In 113043 there is distinction US/Canada and rest of the world and this trim strip is not on the part list.

Two BTWs:
1. What a horrible job to fit this strip this way, like we see on the picture! It is not an easy job, but still... I used adhesive tape, not the rivets as original would have, to avoid this...
2. Zazozazo, Daimler did not work with model years for spare parts numbers. VIN is the key - it is easier to find what you are looking for if you provide VIN, not year.

Germany delivery should have the strip. I bought mine at SLS. i was afraid to use rivets to install it, I replaced the back panel and did not have the holes for it. If you do not have the holes, I would suggest to use the double sided adhesive tape, special for car emblems. It is not easy to fit it in a proper place not obstruct even the Euro license plate. I think that is what you have on Malta - if I remember correctly from my stay on this absolutely beautiful island.
